IMGSHARE

Hello, i am DanielFox16bit. This is IMGSHARE

What is IMGSHARE

A website for authenticated users to upload image files. This is not an anonymous file sharing platform, try 0x0.st or catbox.moe for that purpose. These are merely suggestions, not endorsements, you can use any host you want to use, paid or otherwise.

Important links

What does IMGSHARE do

It serves image files authenticated users upload. It follows the HTTP protocol and allows users to fetch images using HTTP links. If users share that link to other users, they by extension share the image the link points to. Additionally it automatically resizes images and, regretably, converts them to JPEG when doing so. This allows users with low data quotas or allowances, or slow internet users, to download images more or less safely. The native image remains untouched however, so if you only intend to share that, good, it will preserve its original quality.

What IMGSHARE doesn't do

It does not allow anonymous file uploads. It is only for images, not for regular/arbitrary files, only supported image files will be accepted. It does not offer image lists, you have to post a direct link somewhere for the image to be visible. It does not remove EXIF tags off the native version of the image file, so you could accidentally disclose information you didn't intend to disclose. It doesn't serve coffee, only image files. It does not charge money nor displays ads. It won't auto-redirect you to a bloated and ad-filled web interface when you share a direct image link.

How do I register

You can't. I only allow whoever I want, there's no way to apply for an account here, it's only for close AND trusted friends offline and online. They were fed up of formerly trusty public image sharing services that got too many ads and did hostile things like switching web browser users to watch ads off a bloated web page.

How does it work?

Check the Technical Reference page for information on how the server works and how to upload files to it. Long story short, approved (registered) users can create an alphanumeric and randomly generated token that may look like this "a0b1c2d3e4e5f6789", this token is a mandatory part of script-based image uploading. Users who desire to use scripts to upload files need to introduce that token as a POST argument, along with other parameters. No cookies are required in that case, and cookies are discouraged for scripts, just use the token instead, it does not expire until it's explicitly removed. A test web form that uses this token (and requires it in a field) is also available, no login required for it. Users who do not want to write scripts can simply log into the page using their username and password and can upload files using the browser, no special things required. The native file is available immediately after uploading it succesfully, the resized versions for reduced file size become available up to one minute after that.

Where is this hosted from?

As of now, this web page is hosted in Mexico and the IP address in use belongs to a Mexican ISP. The files themselves are hosted by a third-party cloud storage server in the United States, for reducing operating costs. Object storage is much cheaper than high-speed block storage inside of the server. To increase this server's availability, sometimes it may show up with an IP address owned by a cloud compute service in the United States or Mexico. This is merely a reverse tunnel endpoint, the actual server is still hosted in Mexico. This implies that uploaded content must comply with laws in Mexico and the United States at all times.
